Based on an original novel by Erle Stanley Gardner (creator of Perry Mason), They Call it Murder, a made-for-TV pilot that unfortunately never led to the series it deserved, is an intense “whodunnit” murder mystery with many twists and turns, that manages to put the pieces amazingly together with full summation at the end. Featuring Jim Hutton (ala Timothy) in an excellent performance as the relentless DA, he investigates a murder that soon leads to even more homicides. A contemporary nod to the Film Noir movies of the 1940′s, They Call it Murder demands the viewer’s concentration to follow the plot development from beginning to end. Also featuring Edward Asner and Leslie Nielson.

Created by Merwin Gerard, One Step Beyond presents storylines that defy understanding as well as an exploration of the unknown and supernatural. The original series ran for three seasons on ABC from January 1959 to July 1961.

Produced a year before Twilight Zone, this series sparked the growing interest in paranormal suspense in the late 1950’s. The primary difference between the two shows was the effort One Step Beyond made to discover and present “real” stories of supernatural events and recreate them for each episode – all said to be based on true events. Ultimately, solutions to the mysteries were never found, leaving viewers bewildered as to the scope of their reality.

Includes 70 episodes on 6 DVDs and an Episode Guide!

Victory at Sea: The Feature Film on DVD March 17th!

Victory at Sea is a wonderful overview of World War II. The film is fast-paced with excellent narration featuring Alexander Scourby, and legendary music by Richard Rodgers.

A well-produced feature-length version of the TV documentary series with actual footage from the battles described, it’s emotional and provides a good look at what our men and those of our allies, and even enemies, faced in WWII.

Richard Rodgers, fresh off of several hit Broadway musicals, was retained to compose the musical score for the series. Rodgers would contribute twelve “themes” – short piano compositions a minute or two in length – while Robert Russell Bennett did the scoring and conducted the NBC Symphony Orchestra on the soundtrack recording sessions. Rodgers’ “Beneath The Southern Cross” became “No Other Love” and was a big hit of the time.
